The Local Area

Deltaville itself was once the boat building capitol of the Chesapeake Bay and is situated on the eastern delta of land between the Rappahannock and Piankatank rivers as they converge into the Chesapeake Bay. This point is known as Stingray Point.

Stepping back in time, this point was so named because Captain John Smith, whilst exploring the Chesapeake Bay, was stung by a stingray here and only lived because a Native Indian maiden, Pocahontas, took him accross to the north side of the Rappahannock river where she knew of an antidote for the sting, to cure him. This place is known as Antipoison Creek to this day.

We have historic houses here like the Kelly House, Woodport and Bell Air are but a few. The old Stingray Point Lighthouse, now on dry land and various different denominational churches of historic significance date back to the mid 1800's.

Just moments away are the Wineries of the Northern Neck. Go to the Northern Neck Wine Trail to attending a tasting.  www.northernneckwinetrail.com
